In Brain Awareness Week in March 2025, in collaboration with the Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience (DANDRITE), AIAS hosted an Art & Neuroscience exhibition 'Art on the Brain' displaying DANDRITE neuroscientists' own images of the brain's universe.
At the opening event, three of the DANDRITE researchers presented their image and research in a short talk, introduced by three AIAS fellows from completely different research backgrounds with a focus on exchanging knowledge and networking across disciplines.
The works are visual interpretations of the brain's structures and functions – observations made through microscopes, 3D visualizations, dissections and behavioral studies. Each image tells its own unique story and opens a window to the enigmatic and complex universe in our brains – a universe we as humans rarely get to experience. The researchers have transformed neurons, synapses and the brain's smallest building blocks into works of art that create a deeper understanding of both the brain and the science that explores it. Through this unique fusion, the images made it possible to see the brain in a new light and appreciate the beauty and complexity that lies in its inner landscapes.
