Images are a powerful way to address complex issues and topics. They are a way to capture our attention, imagination and cognitively we memorise better through visual engagement.

In the spring 2025, AIAS issued a science photo competition encouraging researchers at AIAS to send in an image for an exhibition at the 2025 AIAS Summer Gathering.

In the exhibition 'MORE THAN PRETTY PICTURES - Bridging science and the public', you will find the output: 19 ‘MORE THAN PRETTY PICTURES’ - images submitted by AIAS Fellows and Associate Fellows from Aarhus University. The exhibited images are all related to the AIAS fellows’ research and are a way to communicate their research to each other and engage with a broad and multidisciplinary audience.

AIAS owes our acknowledgment for the title of the exhibition, 'MORE THAN PRETTY PICTURES,' to Rikke Kjærgaard and Lotte Philipsen from a 2020 book co-edited by the two AIAS fellows on exactly the topic of visual images as representation in science and across the sciences.
