Biotic and abiotic conditions without precedent in the history of civilization are spreading fast and are expected to be globally dominant by the late 21st century. This rise of “novel ecosystems” is driven by human-caused rising atmospheric CO2 levels and climate change, globalization-driven mixing of species across the world, as well as multiple other anthropogenic ecological and environmental changes, e.g., widespread losses of large-bodied organisms as well as changes to nutrient cycles. The outcome is with increasing strength ecosystems deviating from anything seen for millions of years. This spread of novel ecosystems is likely to have strong effects on biodiversity, biosphere functioning (and on people!), but is a complex problem that remains very poorly understood.

ECONOVO take an unparalleled, interdisciplinary approach to achieve a better understanding of these emerging new conditions for life on Earth and what can be done to make them as liveable as possible, integrating Big Data and field-based ecology, satellite-based remote sensing, archaeology, paleoecology, and genomics to bridge this crucial knowledge gap.

Learn more about ECONOVO and how they aim to provide critically new perspectives on the future of the biosphere.

After a short line of talks, there will serve light refreshments in the main hall at AIAS.

Please see the attached program here for further information.

Due to space limitation, registration is needed for this event - please remember to register your participation here: Inauguration of ECONOVO no later than June 30, 2023.
