New AIAS Acting Director appointed

The Rector and Senior Management of Aarhus University have now appointed Vice Dean Søren Rud Keiding from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Aarhus University as acting director of AIAS, from 1 October 2019 until 31 December 2020.

Current AIAS Director Morten Kyndrup is stepping down from his position at AIAS on 1 October to return to his research at the Department of Aesthetics and Culture at Aarhus University. The Rector and Senior Management of Aarhus University have now found Kyndrup’s successor with an appointment of Vice Dean Søren Rud Keiding from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Aarhus University. Søren Rud Keiding will commence as acting director of AIAS on 1 October 2019 for a period until 31 December 2020. Hereafter the position as AIAS executive director will be advertised.

’I am truly pleased that Søren Keiding has accepted the position as acting director of AIAS. Søren Keiding has a very strong management and research profile, and throughout his career Søren has reached out to the world and at the same time made a tremendous effort to strengthen the local research environment’, said Rector Brian Bech Nielsen.

‘I am excited to join AIAS and continue in the footsteps of Morten Kyndrup in the efforts to secure Aarhus University a strong international profile through the unique research environment created at AIAS’, said Søren Rud Keiding.

About the new director

Professor Søren Rud Keiding (b 1959) is vice dean for research and technology at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Aarhus University since 2016 and was a professor of chemistry at Aarhus University from 2003-2015. He holds a PhD degree in physics from 1990 and became a dr. scient. in 1998.  His research is within the area of ultrafast motion of molecules, in particular water, studied with lasers.

Keiding is highly involved in research policy and has held several positions of trust as e.g. chairman of the research council for production and technology of the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF-FTP) from 2011-2016. Søren Rud Keiding will step down from his position as vice dean for research and technology on 30 September to devote his time at AIAS.

‘Professor Søren Keiding knows AIAS, and he has been a valuable partner for us over the past years, among other things as a member of the faculty panel for selection of internal fellows for Science and Technology. I am confident that Søren will be an asset to AIAS, and that the new management team, Søren Rud Keiding and deputy director Nikolaj Zinner, will succeed in developing AIAS further in the years to come. I’ll of course offer Søren any kind of support he might wish for, also when I’m back in my professorship from October 1’, said Morten Kyndrup.
