Every year, the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) launches a photo competition that aims at showing the potential of photography as documentation and communication of research. The three winning images of the 2024 competition and 10 others have been selected by Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) for exhibition.

The 13 images have been on display in Copenhagen and now they travel to the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) to be on display in an interdisciplinary and international setting.

Join this afternoon event to explore the fascinating images and hear winners of the competition present their research and motivation behind their image:

  • 'Epiphany, Amazon' by Christian Vium, Anthropology, Aarhus University (1st prize)
  • 'The digestive system of dairy cows' by Giulio Giagnoni, Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University (3rd prize)

  • 'Tiny Titans 3D Journey' by Alena Salašová, DANDRITE & Biomedicine, Aarhus University (among the 10 runners-up selected for display)

As a judge in the DNRF Photo Competition panel, AIAS Director Andreas Roepstorff will introduce the Photo Competition - and AIAS promises participants an interdisciplinary, international and informal afternoon with amble time for networking and exchanges with colleagues from across research fields.

Participation

The photo exhibition is open to all and free of charge. A refreshment will be served so please sign up by Thursday 7 November 2024, at 10:00 to attend.

About the DNRF photo exhibition

The Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) supports excellent research and the spreading of stories of scientific progress and discoveries. One way is through photos from research that arouse an immediate fascination and curiosity. The winners of the 2024 DNRF Photo Competition have been selected on the basis of the degree to which the photo evokes emotions in the observer, the degree to which the photo works as a visual entry point to the story behind the specific research result; and the aesthetic quality of the photo.

Support

AIAS wishes to thank the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF)/ Danmarks Grundforskningsfond (DG) for generously sharing the photo exhibition with AIAS.
