Ermelinda Porpiglia appointed as new DANWISE Director

Associate fellow Ermelinda Porpiglia is appointed as new DANWISE director. DANWISE is a non-profit organization that represents women from academia, industry and business and aims to develop strategies to reduce the gender gap in the fields of STEMM, Humanities and Social Sciences

The Danish Society for Women in Science, DANWISE, is a non-profit organization that advocates for and supports the career development of women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine (STEMM), Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Ermelinda Porpiglia is a passionate advocate for women scientists and is the past President of the Palo Alto Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS). She currently serves on the Board of Stanford Women on Boards, an organization that aims to increase the representation of women on companies’ boards of directors.

As a new director of DANWISE, Ermelinda will capitalize on her skills and past experience to lead efforts to bridge the gender gap and promote gender equality in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine (STEMM), and the Humanities.

I am honored to take on this new positon of trust within DANWISE, and I encourage fellows and associates at AIAS and others interested in actively joining DANWISE to reach out to me or others in the DANWISE team, said Ermelinda Porpiglia.

Ermelinda Porpiglia holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her postdoctoral training at Stanford University. She is now a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark, and an Associate Fellow at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS). Ermelinda’s research interest is to understand how aging impairs tissue regeneration. Her long-term research goal is to develop therapeutic strategies to modulate the immune system in order to boost muscle repair.
