Call for CAT "Constructive Advanced Thinking" groups for 2024-2026

The CAT programme supports excellent early-career research groups committed to developing new ideas to understand and tackle current or emerging societal challenges. Now the programme is open for application by new groups.

The Constructive Advanced Thinking (CAT) programme is an open international call initiated by the Network of European Institutes for Advanced Study, NETIAS that AIAS is a member of. The CAT programme is aimed at fostering interdisciplinary research teams of young promising individuals who wish to understand and address current and emergent societal issues.

The programme is for groups of 3 to 5 early-career researchers of any discipline who have less than 10 years of experience after earning a doctorate, including doctoral researchers.

CAT encourages collaboration with stakeholders outside academia (industry, policymakers, NGOs etc.) who are willing to support or engage in innovative research initiatives.

What can you apply for?

CAT will provide teams of early-career researchers (three to five persons) time and space for thought and discussion. To help them mature their ideas, the groups have the opportunity to meet for short stays at participating institutes for advanced studies.

CAT teams will benefit from a series of short stays (i.e. between one and two weeks, two to three times a year, for a maximum of six stays) in institutes participating in the programme. Currently 27 Institutes of Advanced Study (IAS) are part of the programme.

CAT will cover travel and accommodation expenses for the team meetings/short work stays in the participating institutes. CAT will not fund salaries or research-related expenses.

Application platform opens: 4 September 2023.
Deadline for applications: 15 October 2023 at 15:00 CET.
