AIAS Fellow Søren Dinesen Østergaard appointed Professor of Clinical Medicine

As a newly appointed professor at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital Risskov, Søren D. Østergaard will strengthen measurement-based care of mental disorders.

Mental disorders represent one of the largest burdens of disease in our society and have severe implications for those affected. Unfortunately, providing treatment tailored for the individual patient’s needs has proven to be challenging.

Therefore, as a newly appointed professor, AIAS Fellow Søren Dinesen Østergaard will focus on so-called “measurement-based care” of mental disorders, where frequent measurement of each patient’s symptoms, side effects as well as overall psychological well-being – guides the treatment. The ambition is to optimize measurement-based care through research and subsequently implement the method in clinical practice.

Project at AIAS

During his professorship Søren D. Østergaard will continue his AIAS research project on ‘Translational studies of mental disorder’, which runs until September 30, 2018.
