Aarhus University Ukraine research fellowships at AIAS
In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Aarhus University Research Foundation has donated funding to research fellowships for researchers affected by the war in Ukraine. The researchers will be hosted at AIAS.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has a devastating impact on all aspects of Ukrainian civil society, including academic activities. Many people have fled the war and are now seeking refuge in other parts of the world. The scientific community is also highly impacted.
A donation of DKK 10 million by Aarhus University Research Foundation (AUFF) will contribute to support researchers who are at risk and unable to continue their work by offering fellowships from 6 to 12 months at AIAS.
”Collaboration across academic areas and across national borders is one of our core missions at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies – and the freedom to do so is currently under attack. By supporting researchers to continue their research at Aarhus University, we first and foremost wish to help people in need, but secondly, we also stand up to protect our freedom to collaborate in the future,” said Søren Rud Keiding, director of AIAS, who will be responsible for hosting the researchers.
Researchers at risk
With immediate effect, 10-15 AUFF-Ukraine Research Fellowships at AIAS, Aarhus University will be available through the donation. These fellowships are open for researchers from any scientific discipline who are currently affected by the Russian war imposed on Ukraine and unable to continue their research in the light of the current situation.
“It is a dark time with war in Europe, and the terrible news from Ukraine affects our daily lives. Therefore it’s a small crack of light when we can reach out to research colleagues from Ukraine,” said Aarhus University Rector Brian Bech Nielsen.
