About the book
The new Edinburgh University Press book publication The Arab Lefts: Histories and Legacies, 1950s-1970s is edited by AIAS Fellow Laure Guirguis and offers new transnational and generational approaches in the study of the Arab Left. The volume moreover opens new avenues for research on the Cold War, the Sixties and national emancipation struggles.
The book features an interdisciplinary team of 14 scholars who contribute to the three thematic parts of the volume that are compiled of case studies utilising a multitude of perspectives in political theory, history, literary studies and sociology.
The result of this compilation is an account of Left-wing revolutionaries that provides new insights into the history of the Middle East as well as contemporary radicalisation processes, authoritarian rules and the resilience of democratic demands in the Arab world.
