Rachel Fishberg

Postdoc, The Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy, Department of Political Science, Aarhus University, Denmark

During her Science Diplomacy Fellowship, Rachel Fishberg will be working on the project 'The Role of Universities in Science Diplomacy: Institutional Dimensions and Academic Practices'

Project description

While the EU recognises SD’s global impact, little is known about how policies and discussions around SD manifest within academic institutions, leaving the processes that shape SD for many academics in Europe largely unexplored. This project examines how universities convey SD priorities and how academics navigate institutional policies on security, ethics, and global collaboration. Using Institutional Ethnography, it explores how researchers respond to these explicit and implicit cues, offering insights into how universities serve as key actors in shaping SD for academics across Europe.

Her research is situated at the intersection of science policy, higher education studies, and global knowledge production. She explores how research policies function across global, national, and institutional levels, and how these policies shape academic work, collaboration, and the production of knowledge. Her interests are in the politics of research funding, university governance, and the epistemic and geopolitical dynamics of transnational and interdisciplinary research collaborations.
