Abstract

The Landing Zones project (Unruly Ecologies. Art, Attention, Neurodiversity), which received Creative Europe funding for 2025-2026, aims to promote spaces and cultures at the intersection of neurodiversity activism and ecology through the creation of a transnational digital library and installations that adapt workspaces. For several decades, neurodiversity activism and theory have been developing in social, cultural, and academic worlds, seeking to remind us of three key facts:

  • There exists a multitude of ways to perceive, interact with, and be in the world
  • A whole series of pressures are exerted to make us believe that one way is better than others
  • It is necessary to create concrete conditions (spaces, modes of attention, resources, methodologies) to open spaces that welcome neurodiversity

To address this need, the project centers on building temporary landing zones (TLZs): places for rest, napping, and slowing down. The TLZs are architectural insertions in a school, an art gallery, or in the heart of a city: they are spaces where one can stay, come and go, sleep, or do nothing for a period of time. In addition to the TLZs, the project will work on creating and translating essential textual resources at the intersection of environmental and neurodiverse studies. By providing a theoretical context for the necessity of reclaiming "rest as resistance," this library will consist of physical and digital texts (in zines and audiobooks), translated into accessible languages (English/French/Croatian/Danish), or easy-to-read formats.

Landing Zones activities will consist of a week-long workshop series at each partner site. They will culminate in the installation of TLZs at each site and the creation of a transnational library, both online and on-site.

Temporary Landing Zone #1 will be held at Aarhus University 16-20 June
