Workshop: New Objectives
Fakes and slop remind us that we shouldn’t always believe our eyes. But for those still committed to an empiricism that requires objectivity, what does objectivity look like today?

The workshop will focus on emerging cultures of objectivity, bringing together scholars focused on new evidentiary technologies and on social processes of meaningmaking to ask how we use new tools to understand the world, to show what we know, and to go about the work of convincing others to know it themselves. By bringing together perspectives on scientific representation and expertise from interdisciplinary science and technology studies with approaches to interpretation, performance, and resonance from cultural sociology, the workshop aims both to map the contemporary diversity of consequential objectivities and to bring together a community of researchers interested in the ways that we negotiate those objectivities together.
