Open Lecture and Discussion: AIAS 3-2-1 Go Interdisciplinary Theme Group on Comparative Environments (Wetlands)
Join this lecture by Nikolai Friberg who is giving his talk: “The future is nature-based – from nice to have to need to have”.

Join this talk and discussion with Nikolai Friberg, Professor at Aarhus University in Freshwater Ecology and Head of the Centre for Nature-based Solutions (C-NBS), about both the new AU Centre for Nature-Based Solutions and his own research on freshwater ecologies. Nikolai has more than 30 years research experience within the field of freshwater ecology from working both in Denmark and abroad. His focus of research is how anthropogenic disturbance, including climate change, impact freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. He also been working on ways to counteract these negative impacts, through ecosystem restoration and use of nature-based solutions (NBS) in both urban and agricultural areas.
He has been Lead Author on the IPBES assessment (region: Europe and Central Asia) and been involved in several EU projects over the years, among which was the EU FP 7 project, REFORM on the impact of habitat degradation on stream biota and ways of restoring rivers successfully in an ecological context. He currently has a large grant for the Norwegian Research Council on NBS: SAfeguard BIodiversity and improve Climate Adaptation in catchment areas under pressure: tools and Solutions (SABICAS). Since October 2024 he has been heading the C-NBS centre initiative at Aarhus University, which he is currently setting up to increase the implementation of NBS at national scales.
