Movie Nights: Unraveling Mexico. Part two.
"La dictadura perfecta" (2014) is the second of a three-part Luis Estrada film series at AIAS, showcasing bold and satirical perspectives in contemporary Mexican cinema.
Through sharp satire and dark humor, this series explores layered Mexican realities: the everyday mechanics of power, the interplay of media and politics, class and regional divides, and how people navigate scarcity, corruption, and crime. Directed by Luis Estrada, whose films openly critique Mexico’s political system and its controversies, the series aims to spark discussion about social complexity and human relations.
Experience the second of Luis Estrada’s three cinematic works: La dictadura perfecta (2014)
A scandal-hit governor seeks salvation on prime-time television. Producers, pundits, and staged spectacles construct a narrative that dominates the headlines while reality fights for airtime. The plot is loosely inspired by public debates about media influence during Mexico’s 2012 presidential election.
Post-screening discussion and refreshments will conclude the evening.
