Abstract

In this presentation, Associate professor in coastal engineering Caroline Hallin will share her experiences of interdisciplinary coastal research and the methods of working at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies at Lund University in Sweden. The audience is invited to engage in a discussion about how to achieve successful interdisciplinary research. What competencies are needed? How should an interdisciplinary research group be composed? How can we avoid conflicts and develop group dynamics?

Short Bio

Caroline Hallin is an associate professor in coastal engineering at Lund University in Sweden. Her main research interest is the development of numerical models for the prediction of the evolution of sandy coasts and coastal risks. She works with climate change adaptation of coastal areas and the development of nature-based coastal protection methods. Caroline is also interested in interdisciplinary coastal research related to biodiversity, historical storm surges, and governance. In 2023 – 2024, she was leading the interdisciplinary theme “Coastal Perspectives” at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies at Lund University.

What is an AIAS Seminar?

The AIAS Seminar Series is a session of seminars held by the AIAS fellows, AIAS Visiting or Tandem Fellows or by other speakers proposed by the fellows. In each seminar, a fellow will present and discuss her/his current research and work-in-progress to an interdisciplinary audience for 30 minutes, closing off with 30 minutes for questions, comments and discussion.

All seminars are in-person and held in English. To attend online, please contact Cecilie Horshauge at cecilie@aias.au.dk by 9:00am on the day of the seminar as the latest to request a link.
