Humanistic Approaches to the Sharia in Islamic Fiqh and Theology

Humanistic and rights-centered approaches to the Shariah—particularly those developed by emerging or underexplored thinkers—remain insufficiently studied. This workshop seeks to address this gap and highlight the emergence of humanistic approaches to the Shariah as a significant and evolving development within Islamic fiqh and theology (ilahiyat and kalam). “Humanistic” approaches are understood as interpretive frameworks that foreground human dignity, ethical reasoning, and rights-based perspectives in both fiqh and theology while remaining firmly rooted in the Islamic intellectual tradition.

Participation

All participants in the workshop are invited speakers who will present their papers and participate in the workshop discussions.
