EXPERIMENTAL FORMS: A Workshop Series

Volatility and crisis—key descriptors of the current global moment—offer opportunities to rethink our research practices. Irrespective of topical interests or disciplinary training, rapid political/social/cultural changes and technological advances encourage us to experiment with both existing and yet-to-emerge ways of thinking and doing research. With the Experimental Forms workshops, our aim is to create a generous, caring, and playful space for collectively trying out alternative methods and modes of knowing. The focus of these workshops is not on the content of our individual research or creative practices but rather on how we encounter, work, and think through forms. We are interested in forms as objects of study, analytical openings, and sociomaterial arrangements that afford occasions for (re)considering our methods, concepts, and practices. By focusing on forms and their various empirical, theoretical, and methodological transmutations we hope to experiment with novel modes of inhabiting and understanding our rapidly changing present.

The workshops are aimed at academics from across the university, artists and practitioners who are interested in experimenting with and thinking through several practical and conceptual formations. Considering the constitution and multiplicity of forms in and of the present we also want to engage with emerging technologies and socio-technical infrastructures. Technologies, including VR and GenAI will help us to push the limits of our thinking while cross-disciplinary conversations and hands-on experimentation will provide ample material for revamping our varied methodological approaches. By resisting an instrumental attitude to methods, we will open spaces for thinking differently and expand our experiential horizons together.

Experimental Forms Workshop: Rhythms in Writing 12/6/2026

Our next Experimental Forms workshop — this time focusing on Rhythms in Writing — will take place on the 12th of June between 10:00 and 13:00 at AIAS. This workshop is both a natural continuation of our earlier conversations on patters and form and a hands-on experimentation with the rhythms of and in writing. We are lucky to have Line Dalsgaard and Birgitte Stougaard Pedesren lead this workshop, so do sign up and come prepared to have some fun. Readings will be sent to participants a few days in advance.
