The seminar will focus on the viability of using the vitamin B12 dietary pathway for drug delivery and targeting. In particular, the seminar will focus on oral, sub-cutaneous and i.v administration of B12 conjugates of the anorectic peptide PYY3-36 and the incretin peptide Exendin-4.
Results demonstrate that the pathway is highly limited in several aspects including oral uptake capacity and general pharmacokinetic parameter improvements for example, but does demonstrate protective effects for peptides against gastric and serum protease degradation, improves blood brain barrier passage and offers scope for cellular targeting. The most recent results of Doyle’s group will be described in addition to thoughts of where a successful B12 based ´drug´ may be obtained and future insights to the topic.
Duration: 40 min lecture followed by a discussion.
