Six former AIAS AUFF-Ukraine Fellows obtain a SARU fellowship at Aarhus University
The Scholars at Risk from Ukrainian Universities (SARU) programme have awarded 11 Ukrainian scholars a fellowship at Aarhus University. Six of the grantees have been at AIAS before, through the AIAS AUFF-Ukraine fellowship programme initiated in 2022, immediately after the war in support of displaced researchers from Ukraine.
The SARU fellowship programme for Scholars at Risk from Ukrainian Universities is an initiative of the organisation of the eight Danish universities, Universities Denmark (Danske Universiteter), with support from three Danish foundations: the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Carlsberg Foundation and Villum Foundation.
Continuing research collaborations in Denmark
In the fifth round of SARU fellowships, a total of 23 fellowships have been awarded. The main aim in the fifth round has been to support researchers from Ukrainian research institutions who are employed or have previously been employed at a Danish university, hereby enabling the scholars to continue their research in Denmark until conditions in Ukraine improve.
Eleven of the 23 SARU fellows will be based at Aarhus University; six of them came to Aarhus and AIAS in 2022 through the AIAS AUFF-Ukraine fellowship programme, supported by Aarhus University Research Foundation (AUFF).
The SARU fellows will be based at a department at Aarhus University to continue collaborations with the research group or laboratory they are affiliated with. AIAS will function as a platform for cross-faculty network meetings and exchanges between all the SARU fellows and their Aarhus University partners.
