Attention is turning to the marketisation of quantum computing for a variety of policy agendas. Yet, no nation has the capacity to develop the entire quantum computing value chain themselves. This raises a fundamental question: how does the emerging shape of this innovation market dictate who gets what, when, where, and how is this reflected in the development and financing of this technology in the global political economy? Studying the Danish case can help shape the development of science diplomacy initiatives required for European success.

Short Bio

George Salter is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy, Aarhus University and a Science Diplomacy Fellows at AIAS. He studies the International Political Economy (IPE) of technological innovation with a focus on science-intensive sectors such as quantum computing. He is broadly interested in both the micro and macro dynamics unfolding in the collision spaces between states and globally dispersed technology markets. Animated by perspectives from IPE, organisational sociology, and innovation studies, the core question guiding his work is who creates value from science, how, and why, and where is it captured?
