Conference on art and the city

The interdisciplinary conference Art and the City: Urban Space, Art and Social Change organized by AIAS Fellow Tijen Tunali will bring together more than 30 speakers from across the social sciences and humanities for three days in April to discuss urban space, art, and social change.

The Art and the City: Urban Space, Art and Social Change conference series bring together international research scholars with an interest in art and 'right to the city', aesthetics and politics of the urban environment, artistic rebellion on the streets, aesthetics of urban social movements and art activism in the urban space. It is a “traveling conference” series – each year in a different city in Europe –in 2021 it was scheduled for Aarhus, and the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies at Aarhus University. Due to the corona pandemic, it has now moved online from the 28-30 April 2021.

The central goal of the conference is to engage in a multifaceted, multi-disciplinary, and multi-geographic perspective to articulate and promote a richer and a more integrated understanding of the ideologies, relationships, meanings, and practices that arise from the diverse interactions among the three social spheres: urban space, art, and social change.

Extensive programme

The conference is organized by AIAS-COFUND Fellow Tijen Tunali, and has an extensive programme with more than 30 talks by speakers from various academic disciplines from all over the globe. The conference is free of charge and open to all interested.
