The JCS fellowships at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) are only available for AU employees with a distinguished track record in research and who are intending to explore innovative, high-risk topics in their scientific research areas.

The duration of the JCS fellowships vary from 6 months to 3 years, providing the fellows with time to pursue their research project, completely unrestricted by other obligations. Fellows are free to decide how much to engage in teaching or clinical work, if at all, but the main focus area should be the development of their chosen research area. Moreover, fellows can choose their research topic freely.

All fellows at the AIAS are expected to be physically situated in AIAS’ buildings on campus, to participate in AIAS’ programmes and events, and to organize activities such as workshops, public talks or speakers' series in order to contribute to the intellectual life at the Institute and at Aarhus University. The mission of the AIAS is to support excellence in research by attracting the most talented researchers across all research disciplines.
